17th March 08 Ride

Rev Trev's cycle needed servicing so Vet Geoff did the necessary over the weekend. He therefore had to be driven to Martock to start today's trip so no extra 7 miles rabbiting on today. It was thought that Mrs Robinson wouldn't be able to join us as she had ear problems but she turned up - being the stalwart she is. Odd that she is the one who does all the talking yet she is also the one who ends up with "ear ache". Having said goodbye to Digger Dave we made our way with the determination to complete a big trip. The three of us cycled to Glastonbury via Somerton and Butleigh where we stopped for coffee and delicious apple cake (see photo). On to Wells cycling by the West front of the Cathedral and then tackling the Mendips and the long drag to Stratton on the Fosse. Just to show there was no bias we admired Downside Abbey before passing the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore and a working stone quarry on route to Batcombe and ending up at another refreshment stop in Bruton. Incidentally Rev Trev knows one person at Batcombe and one at Bruton and we managed to meet both of them. We then put it to the vote as to whether we should take the most direct route back or a more scenic detour. All kinds of excuses were forthcoming including the need to return to a certain dog which would be pining for attention and so we returned via Sparkford, Queen Camel and Yeovil, where Rev Trev made his way home and Vet Geoff and Mrs Robinson gallantly did the EXTRA 7 MILES. Once again the navigation for the day was left to Vet Geoff and thankfully we all managed to keep going in the same direction as each other.
Miles today = 67 with some good hill climbs.
